Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business for over 25 years.
What is your primary product or service?
Our only business is valuing privately held businesses for a variety of reasons, including ownership transition, partner disputes, and divorces. In this context we also train our competition and work around the globe in implementing similar business valuation knowledge and skills to those in use in North America.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
After assisting the Illinois CPA society establish the first 5 day training curriculum in business valuations I found myself with an opportunity to become a full time business valuator and instructor. I accepted the challenge, learned to speak in front of crowds of interested individuals ranging from 5 to 1,000, and have enjoyed the profession ever since.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We only bill on an hourly basis when we cannot control our time (deposition, trial, and other similar work), providing our clients with fixed fees (known cost) rather than "approximate" cost. We hope we have trained our competitors well enough that there is not a noticeable difference in our quality from theirs.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We operate from our offices at 2100 Manchester Rd. and have no plans to expand or move.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Adjacent to Manchester Road, across the street from the DuPage court house (veterans memorial) entrance. We are in Building B, use the 900 entrance.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash and checks.
Which areas do you service?
We provide valuations and valuation advise around the globe, although most of work is in Northern Illinois.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Bob Brackett owns and runs Crandall & Brackett. We lost Art Crandall in 1994.
What are your hours of operation?
8am until 6pm, but call first as we may be out visiting clients or teaching.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
a simple "thank you."
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
People are like tea bags, you do not know what they are made of until you put them in hot water. and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
